The company has played a significant role in the economy of Finland, as it acts as a main employer and has supported small businesses through partnerships and subcontracts.

The main products they sell are mobile devices, specifically mobile telephones and other similar communications devices. It also provides Internet services that include music, messaging, games, applications, media, and more. With Siemens, the corporation formed Nokia Siemens Networks, which offers telecommunications network services, solutions and equipment.

In 2012, the business was ranked as the second largest in terms of mobile phone vendors around the world. Samsung was given the top ranking. From 1998 up until 2012, Nokia was the largest. Though the high demand for smart phones and more advanced technology led to a decrease in sales for this particular business. Over 100,000 people in more than 100 countries are employed by this company that distributes to 150 countries worldwide and collects and estimated annual revenue of more than 35 billion euros.

Original phones by this brand ran under their exclusive operating system. In 2011, things began to change when the company paired up with Windows Company. Now, the top-selling and high-quality phones are loaded with the Microsoft operating system, while the low-end phones still have the Symbian operating system.

For a couple years, the business has been split into three main categories: markets, mobile phones and mobile solutions. Each of these sections is given support from the corporate development office, which is also in charge of exploring various growth opportunities. The mobile solutions category handles the portfolio for the company that involves expensive media devices, such as smart phones and mobile computers. This group may also work on projects related to Internet services.
