There is perhaps not any other company that has been consistent in communication business as Nokia. This company has a history dating back to the 1960s when it first got its footing on mobile telephony technology. From then this Finnish company has grown to become the number two mobile telephony and solutions provider today after Samsung. With two subsidiaries with three business groups and a work force of more than one hundred and thirty thousands the company has outlets in over one hundred and twenty countries worldwide. The advent of mobile telephony at the beginning of the nineteenth century is largely credited to the activities for this corporation.

In 1971 this company established the first public mobile phone network in Finland. Earlier on the firm had provided military mobile radio communication requirements. Eventually the firm put its focus on mobile telephony and supporting infrastructure development. This was because of the apparent successful implementations and increasing demand.

To increase its prospects the company has strategically merged with other players in the field. The most notable has been with Salora Oy. Additionally the firm has been a main initiator in the establishment of a global system for mobile communications what is denoted GSM. The second generation mobile phone that from this advances are able to transmit both voice and data.

From this innovation there later emerged the mobile telephony standards. This included the international roaming standard. It was this standard that provided the most valued experience for this firm. This standard enabled the mobile handsets to carry on communication beyond territorial borders. This in effect established a global mobile telephony network.

Eventually the GSM technology was implemented full scale by the company with the first network of this kind in operation by 1989. Later in 1992 the first model of GSM mobile phone was also launched. Typically this type of phone was capable of supporting the short messaging and roaming services as well as voice calls. These features are still in common use today.

The company has also ventured into personal computer manufacturing. However this has not been as successful as the mobile telephony venture. This has been partly because of the increased demand for mobile telephony at the turn of the century.

The introduction of innovative mobile phone designs has contributed to the success of the organization. The 1100 series is perhaps the most successful. After its launch in 2003 the model has sold in excess of 200 million units world over. This success has increased the growing fortunes for the company.

Nokia has continued to bring to market newer and better mobile phone designs since then. These consist of new features and enhanced functions. The 7710 series is a model that was introduced in 2007 that is among the first class of touch screen handsets. The likeable features of this model have made it an instant hit especially for those users wanting a departure from the keypad type of handsets. Later the firm launched the N and E series that had other elaborate functions and features. The E series was specifically introduced to compete the blackberry models. The increased attention to social networking gaming and music has spurred the company to incorporate some features to support these latest market requirements.
